Mercedes Schlapp, the White House communication strategist, has a challenging job. In her role as the White House's Strategic Communications Advisor, Mercedes Schlapp is faced with multiple issues. The president is the director of his own communications. There are numerous legal matters which could impact messaging strategies. And Cabinet Secretaries who have been involved in controversies. Schlapp is, however, maintained her focus on her mission. She works closely with White House political affairs and committees on legislation and policy shops as well as the larger communications department to oversee the rollout of policies. Her focus to date has been issues such as school safety as well as the opioid epidemic infrastructure, trade along with other issues. At the moment she isn't in contact with many reporters. In March, she was the subject of a sudden surge in attention, when it became public that her name was going to be a candidate for fill in Hope Hicks's role as the director of communication. Mercedes Schlapp's position to serve as White House Strategic Communications Advisor is not an easy one. The White House's strategist's adviser to communications must contend various legal battles that may affect the communications policy of the administration as well as Cabinet secretaries who are involved in their own scandals. Schlapp did not change her focus, and worked closely to work closely with White House policy and political teams. Her focus to date has been on topics such as school safety, the opioid epidemic, infrastructure, trade, along with other issues. Schlapp hasn't dealt with reporters much in her current role. But, back in March, she was mentioned as a candidate who would succeed Hope Hicks at the Communications Director position. The battle has been brutal. The ally of Schlapp's, Tony Sayegh, and another candidate for the position with the same name, Tony, began fighting in the news. Schlapp told The Washington Examiner that she spoke with Sayegh about an article that had been published in the past on him.
